Solmara Exteriors

Design Without Limits

A vertically integrated design, construction, and estate stewardship firm for exceptional properties — from Sonoma County vineyards to the coast.

The Firm

We are not a landscaping company. We build the exterior life of an estate.

Solmara holds design, construction, and long-term care under a single roof. One team draws the master plan, sets the stone, commissions the water and lighting, and returns each season to keep it right. Nothing is handed off, and nothing is explained away.

We call it a resort mindset: the design rigor and hospitality-grade attention of a five-star property, applied to a private one. The arrival sequence, the temperature of the light at nine in the evening, the way a terrace is reset before guests arrive — these are project scope, not afterthoughts.

Three Disciplines

I

Design

Master planning begins with the land itself — grade, prevailing light, the way a property is arrived at and moved through. Our designers and landscape architects develop estate exteriors as a single composition: motor courts, terraces, water, planting, and lighting resolved together, drawn to the level of detail a builder can hold to.

II

Build

We construct what we draw. In-house crews and long-standing trade partners execute stonework, structures, pools, and site systems under one project management discipline, on schedules that respect a household's life. Material decisions are made in the field, in daylight, with the people who will set them.

III

Stewardship

A completed estate is the beginning of the relationship. Our stewardship teams hold the property to its intended condition season after season — horticultural care, water and lighting systems, material maintenance, and the quiet coordination that keeps a place ready without ever being noticed.

Philosophy

Most firms are one thing or the other.

There are builders who can execute anything and are never published, and design offices whose work is celebrated and rarely resolved in the field. The distance between those two positions is where estates lose years and owners lose patience.

Solmara occupies the ground between them. We draw with the constraints of construction already understood, and we build with the intent of the drawing intact. Restraint in materials, precision in detail, and a long horizon — a property should read better in its tenth year than in its first.

Who We Serve

Owners of properties that deserve a single, permanent partner.

Our clients are vineyard and wine-country estate owners, families holding coastal and ranch properties, and principals whose homes are managed alongside other obligations. They tend to have worked with several firms already, and they are looking for the last one.

We take on a limited number of estates each year. The relationship is expected to continue long after the final walkthrough — through plantings maturing, systems aging, and the property changing with the people who live on it.

The Process

  1. 01

    Discover

Walk the land. Understand the household, the horizon, and the intent.

  2. 02

    Design

Master plan, material palette, and a drawing set precise enough to build from.

  3. 03

    Build

Single-accountability construction, sequenced around the life of the estate.

  4. 04

    Steward

Seasonal care and long-term partnership once the crews have gone.
